CUSD BOARD OF TRUSTEES SELECTS SUZETTE LOVELY TO BE NEW DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT
Lovely Will Work Closely with Current Superintendent John Roach, Ed.D. and his Management Team to Ensure a Smooth Transition
The Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Suzette Lovely to serve
    North America, Local 777
    We need
as the new District Superintendent. According to CUSD Board President Kelli Moors, Lovely has accepted the position. To finalize the selection, Board members will visit Lovely's current school district and complete the process. She will replace Superintendent John A. Roach, Ed.D., who is retiring June 30, 2012 after serving eight years in that position.
    Lovely currently serves
many people & families there as Assistant Superintendent, Personnel Services, at Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) (www.pylusd.k12.ca.us). PYLUSD serves 25,000 students at 34 elementary, middle and high school sites. CUSD serves 11,000 students at nine elementary, three middle and currently one high school site. Sage Creek High School, now under construction, will open in Fall 2013.
Moors states, "We were gratified by the sizable number of highly qualified applicants. The Board meticulously reviewed each application and met with several excellent candidates. The selection was by no means easy or quick, but after diligent review, all five Board members concur that we have found the best leader
possible. We want them to fulfill the District's needs; today and into the future." **//Complete release here.//**
LIUNA welcomes Ms. Lovely to Carlsbad Unified and we look forward working in a collaborative fastion for the benefit to our members, and the staff, students and parents of Carlsbad.

    Introduction
of them referenced reducing classified staff. We presented some strong arguments to the board asking them toKevin Simonds as our newest Member at least delay in approving these cuts whileLarge that we recruited to help cover Rachel Austin's vacancy once negotiations are stillover. He will remain in the negotiations stage, and allow that process to work. We were successfulposition until elections in some cases, but not all. Of the 21 explicit Classified positions that were listed for elimination, only a total of 4 were approved last night, two positions this year (Admin. Asst.-AP and Accompanist); and two positions next year (Child Care Assistants working forSpring.
Business meeting at which Stephen Switzer outlined
